Podiatrist Redfern: Arch Pain and Orthotic Treatment

Arch pain that builds through the day? Heel that bites on the first step out of bed? A toenail that has turned nasty? Our Redfern podiatrists can look at it and tell you what is going on.

We are at Shop J/88 Regent St, a stone’s throw from Redfern Station and a short walk from the University of Sydney. You get a proper assessment, a clear diagnosis and a plan you can actually follow.

Meet Our Podiatrists in Redfern

Two podiatrists work at our Redfern clinic. Both are registered with AHPRA. They cover everything from a routine foot check to plantar fasciitis, corns, ingrown toenails and diabetic foot care.

Chalerm Tuantab, Senior Podiatrist. Chalerm founded Align Health Collective and consults across all five clinics, overseeing advanced care for lower limb conditions. He works with elite National Premier League football clubs, keeping their players on the park. Outside the clinic he is usually on the water or on a sports field.

David Wassef, Podiatrist. David holds a Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine (Honours) from the University of Western Sydney and grew up in Sydney’s western suburbs in a medical family. His interest is biomechanics: how people walk, move and function, and finding the cause of a problem rather than treating the symptom. He builds a customised rehabilitation plan for each patient, aimed at preventing the next injury as well as fixing this one.

Both take bookings online, or phone the clinic on (02) 7252 4590 and we will find you a time.

Podiatry Treatments Available In Redfern

General foot pain, a sports injury, a chronic condition, or the changes that come with growing and ageing. Tap a treatment below, or call (02) 7252 4590. Every plan is designed around the patient in front of us, so get in touch for detail on yours.

General Foot Care

Ingrown toenails, cracked heels, calluses and corns, thickened nails and athlete’s foot. You get a treatment plan aimed at foot health and pain-free mobility, not a standing monthly appointment.

Musculoskeletal and Sports Injuries

We diagnose and treat acute and overuse injuries including Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and shin splints. You get a rehabilitation plan built to get you back to your sport, plus gait analysis and a biomechanical assessment for injury prevention.

Orthotics and Support

Incorrect alignment causes a lot of foot problems, and it is a common source of arch pain. We prescribe custom orthotics fitted to your feet to correct it, give footwear advice for comfort and pain relief, and use gait analysis to show you how you actually move.

Chronic Disease Management

Diabetes and neuropathy need careful management. Neurovascular assessments protect your feet before something goes wrong, and we also treat arthritis, nerve disorders and circulation problems.

Surgical Care

We perform minor surgical procedures in the clinic for warts, verrucae and ingrown toenails, and we walk you through infection prevention and how to look after it while it heals.

Paediatric Podiatry

Growing children get flat feet, in-toeing and heel pain, and left alone these affect how they develop. We treat children as well as adults, and advise on footwear that supports the foot while it grows.

Preventive Care

Screenings and assessments to catch a problem before it starts, plus straightforward education on foot care, injury prevention and choosing footwear.

Specialised Services

We treat structural problems such as hammertoes, claw toes, overlapping toes and bunions, working to regain mobility and reduce the pain.

Family-Friendly Podiatry Care in Redfern

Looking after your feet is how you stay active, whether you are heading out for a walk in one of Redfern’s parks or planning to enjoy your later years on your own two feet.

Foot pain wears on more than the foot, so we take the time to assess what is happening and build a treatment plan that fits your lifestyle. Your first appointment includes the assessment, and you leave knowing what the problem is and what happens next.

Frequently Asked Questions Podiatrist Redfern

How To Choose a Podiatrist In Redfern?

Consider their qualifications, experience and the range of services they provide. Location matters too, since a clinic nearby is a clinic you will actually get to, and patient reviews tell you what other people’s visits were like.

It is also worth asking about availability, consultation fees and the equipment they use. If you can, visit in person and see whether the place feels welcoming.

Should I See A Podiatrist Or An Orthotist?

Both specialise in foot and ankle care, but the roles differ. Podiatrists diagnose and treat conditions of the feet and ankles. Orthotists design and make custom orthotics or braces to correct and support a problem. Depending on your needs you may benefit from both.

What Does A Podiatrist Do For Your Feet?

A podiatrist diagnoses and treats a wide range of foot and ankle problems. That starts with a thorough examination of your feet and legs to identify the pain, injury or abnormality, then a personalised treatment plan which may involve lifestyle changes, exercises, orthotics or a minor procedure, plus preventive care so it does not return.

Can A Podiatrist in Redfern Treat Ingrown Toenails?

Yes. We relieve the pain, remove the affected nail edge when that is needed, and give you advice to help stop the problem coming back.

When Should I See A Podiatrist For Bunions?

See a podiatrist if the bunion is causing pain or swelling, making walking difficult, or making it hard to find comfortable footwear. Early treatment helps manage the symptoms and slow the progression.

Can A Podiatrist in Redfern Remove Corns?

Yes. We remove corns safely and identify what caused them, usually footwear or the way your foot loads, so they do not simply return.

Can A Podiatrist Help Plantar Fasciitis?

Yes. We diagnose plantar fasciitis and build a treatment plan around it, which may include stretching, footwear advice, taping, orthotics and shockwave therapy where that is appropriate.

Do I Need Custom Orthotics?

Custom orthotics may be recommended if you have ongoing foot, heel, ankle, knee or lower limb pain that has not improved with rest or supportive footwear. A podiatrist assesses your foot mechanics, your walking pattern and your symptoms to work out whether orthotics are the right treatment for you.

Why Is Diabetic Foot Care Important?

Diabetes affects circulation and nerve function, which raises the risk of foot injuries and infections. Regular podiatry assessments catch problems early and reduce the risk of complications.

Can I Use NDIS Funding For Podiatry Services?

Yes, NDIS funding can be used for podiatry care in Redfern where the services are necessary to help you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life. Confirm with your NDIS plan manager that podiatry is covered under your plan.

What Is The Difference Between Podiatry And Physio?

Both treat conditions affecting the lower limbs. Podiatrists specialise in the feet and ankles, while physiotherapists cover a wider range of musculoskeletal problems including the legs, hips and lower back. Depending on your problem you may benefit from both, and at our Redfern clinic that is the same building.

Align HC also offers exercise physiology, which uses exercise to manage and prevent disease, distinct from physiotherapy’s focus on restoring movement after injury.

How Much Does Podiatry In Redfern Cost?

An initial podiatry consult is usually $156.55, and follow-up appointments are $135. For new patients your first appointment is free with eligible private health cover, or $99 without it. Costs vary with the treatment you need, so call us and we will tell you before you book.

Are Podiatry Costs Covered By Medicare?

Routine podiatry is generally not covered. Medicare may contribute through a GP-managed Chronic Disease Management plan, which covers a limited number of allied health visits a year. Routine foot care such as nail trimming or corn removal is not included. Ask your GP whether you qualify.

What Conditions Can Podiatrists Treat?

Heel pain, sports injuries, diabetic foot care, nail disorders, shin splints, calluses, leg pain, nail surgery, ingrown toenails, foot and ankle pain and postural problems, among others.
